At Kelowna Youth and Family Services we work collaboratively and respectfully to help families seek the changes they are looking for.
We all work from a Family Systems Perspective. This means that we believe that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from one another, but rather as part of their family, as the family is an emotional unit.
We know that it is difficult to come to a new place and tell your story so we work very hard at making you feel comfortable and at home. We believe that all families have struggles and that families can heal themselves.
We like to involve as many of the family who are willing to attend. We see all combinations of families, depending on what you prefer. Sometimes we see the parental unit or just one parent, sometimes one parent and a child/ren, and under certain circumstances a child/youth on their own or with siblings. Sometimes the whole family agrees to come in and sometimes grandparents attend, especially when they are the primary caregivers.
Most of our families come 1-10 sessions. Some will come longer and some will come 2-4 sessions per year over many years, during transition times, or as the need arises. To make an appointment for family counselling in Kelowna, please call 250 763 2405 or email us at [email protected]
